Correa talks about a possible revocation of some legislators of PAIS
Ecuadorian President, Rafael Correa, warned of a possible recall of some Assembly members of the political party PAIS, due to their position on abortion. Correa described as “betrayal” that some legislators are trying to misalign from the party’s position when the plenary of the Assembly acknowledged the subject.
During the roundtable discussion over the draft of the Organic Code of Criminal Procedure (COIP for its Spanish acronym,) in Guayaquil, the President said that the COIP writing process was made by the Government and the Assembly members of PAIS, and although there were discrepancies, they decided “not to discuss abortion” and that “most of Ecuadorians” disagree with its complete decriminalization.
“The problem is that political trust is lost,” said Correa, who remarked that the issue has not generated divisions on PAIS, but has created problems due to the disloyalty from certain assembly members.
