Demonstrators Protest Against Berlusconi
Posted On 05 Apr 2011
Hundreds of people showed up today in the streets of Rome to defend democracy and protest against the measures taken by the Italian Government to support the prime minister, Silvio Berlusconi, in different trials.
The protesters, who shouted slogans such as “Silvio Berlusconi must die” and “buy the judges or change the laws,” gathered on plaza of Montecitorio, at the doors of the Chamber of Deputies where the main assembly decided to bring before the Constitutional Court a conflict of jurisdiction for the “Ruby case” today.
The chamber supported the initiative of Berlusconi’s party, the Pueblo de la Libertad, by only 12 votes behind other groups in the government majority.
The Constitutional Court will decide whether Milan or a court of Ministers will be dependent on the Parliament, which has the jurisdiction to try the case in which the prime minister is accused of inciting child prostitution and abuse of power. The first view at the trial will be held tomorrow.
