Disaster in Struck in the Reno National Air Race 2011
During the National Air Race 2011 in Reno, Nevada, the 74-year-old pilot named Jimmy Leeward lost control of his plane “the galloping horse” while performing for the national championship of air exhibitions. The plane dived directly into the ground were several fans watched the air show.
Leeward was a renowned racing pilot that had performed in several risk movies. The cause of the accident is still unknown so far; however the directors of the event speculate that it could be a mechanical failure.
Around 60 people were admitted into the hospital early in the morning after the plane crashed near the grandstand at Reno Stead Airport. Three people perished during the event including Leeward, two more died due to their injuries, leaving a death toll of five people. At the moment the Renown Regional Medical Center informed that six people are in critical condition, and 19 people have been discharged. (AV)
