Ecuador Demands IACHR Not To Interfere In National Affairs

Rafael Correa’s government considered that the Special Rapporteur for Freedom of Expression of the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR) should not interfere in domestic affairs.

A statement from the Foreign Ministry called for the hemispheric system bodies “act in strict accordance with the legally binding framework of its competence, to refrain from projecting erroneous reference (…). ” and reiterated “the order ” that the estates system “intended to interfere in the internal affairs of Member States of the OAS.”

That is because the Rapporteur of the Commission expressed its “concern “about the existence and use of standards and contempt criminal contempt and civil rules allow the imposition of penalties for “disproportionate ” to persons who publicly criticized dignitaries in Ecuador.
