Ecuador is increasingly connected to the Internet
One of the greatest achievements of this year for Ecuador, presented by the Ministry of Telecommunications within the II Strategy Forum “Ecuador Digital Broadband” is that more than eight million users had access to the Internet until last September, it means an Internet penetration of 54.7%. In the same period of the year 2011, was just 38%.
According to Augusto Espin, deputy of this Ministry currently there are 15,630 km of optical fiber and 23 provinces connected. However, the number of people online differs from the number of subscribers.
Data from the Superintendence of Telecommunications assured that more than 3 million lines are registered with access to the Internet, but for each line there are 1 to 4 users.
Today the market has become very dynamic and is growing with companies that also offer this services, that is why there are currently more than 176 operators, that is 48 more than in 2008, when there were 128.
