Ecuador welcomes 2013 accompanied by its traditions

Ecuador is preparing to say good bye to 2012 celebrating in style without leaving its traditions and particular cabbals, to welcome the New Year, hoping for  prosperity and fortune. The so-called cabbals are helpful to attract, among other things, good luck, money and love.

According to popular belief, the first thing to do is burn a paper which contains all the bad things that happened in 2012. In addition, the construction  of a dummie representing an old man or a distinctive character of the year to burn, and with him all the bad experiences of 2012.

Candles, grapes, and colors

At 12H00am, is recommended to light color candles so that in the new year things could go well in different areas, for example, a pink candle for true love, yellow for wealth and red to keep passion. It is also recommended to enter the house with the right foot and holding a pink quartz. The bath of roses and cinnamon oil are also used, according to beliefs, for prosperity.

Eating 12 grapes at midnight is one of the most characteristic cabbals in our country, also running around the block with a suitcase to make a trip. If it’s done with a glass of champagne, it  means a journey of pleasure.

Underwear is also important

Dress yellow or red underwear also has relevance in the last day of the year. It is believed that it will bring financial abundance or success in love.
