Ecuador will not intercede for Julian Assange, after his demand

In the protection action filed by Julián Assange’s defense against the government, the founder of the WikiLeaks portal is presented with a double status: Ecuadorian and also  with asylum. Today at 09:00 a hearing will be held with which Julian Assange seeks the suspension of a protocol (issued on October 13) that Ecuador gave him for visits and communications at his diplomatic headquarters in London, where he has been isolated since the year 2012.

Chancellor José Valencia and the State Attorney, Íñigo Salvador, were summoned to the judicial proceeding. Valencia will not be able to attend because the president of Peru, Martín Vizcarra, will arrive at the same time as part of his official visit for the commemoration of the 20 years of peace.

The Foreign Ministry will send a legal team for the case. Valencia advanced that the State will no longer execute any further action against the United Kingdom, to seek an exit to the haven of the Australian hacker. “We are neither Mr. Assange’s lawyers nor are we representatives of the British Government, it is a direct relationship between Assange and Great Britain,” he said.

Carlos Poveda, legal representative of Assange, described this position as a “retaliation”. “There can be no indifference when there are international obligations,” the lawyer replied via WhatsApp.

Poveda added that Assange has nationality and also with an Ecuadorian identity card. Even so, in the online consultation system of the Civil Registry, the name of Julián Paul Assange appears and in condition “INSCRIPC AS400” appears.

This refers to a late registration, which would have been made in the identification system that the Civil Registry replaced a decade ago, because it did not provide all the guarantees for the process of identification. Now the Magna system is used.

But this does not happen in this case. For Cabrera, another indication that doubts Assange’s presumed identity card is that it does not appear on the voter registry, which is prepared based on the Ecuadorian registry, which sends the Civil Registry to the National Electoral Council.

When asked about it, Poveda said that “there are occasions that do not register or register.” Today, the defense of Assange will present as evidence: a statement from former Foreign Minister Ricardo Patiño (during the government of Rafael Correa), in which he is restricted communications, opinions of the Working Group on arbitrary arrests in 2015, an Advisory Opinion 25 / 18 of the Inter-American Court of May 2018, the Protocol and a medical report for the year 2018.
