Ecuadorians are moving forward in the World Masters of Montañita
The first day of competition showed a positive balance for the host country at the ISA World Masters Surfing Championship 2013 that takes place in the waves of Montañita, Ecuador.
The opening ceremony took place at the Acoustic Shell and counted with the presence of the Minister of Sports, José Francisco Cevallos.
The surf world championship started in Montañita last Saturday with a colorful parade through the main streets of the community and by the beach, where thousands of national and international tourists observed over 120 competitors. This scenario which featured waves of between five and six feet height, light wind and somewhat cloudy sky, was highlighted by three Ecuadorians whose performance got them through to the second round of the competition.
Ecuadorians Andrés Fernandez, Rene Burgos and Felipe “Pachin” Rodriguez classified yesterday to the second round of the world Master of Surf 2013.
Fernandez ranked second in the master category of the heat 4, 10.03. The Hawaiian Kalani Robb was first with 15.17, while Kris Cabezas representative of Chile was third, with 8.93.
Burgos and “Pachin” Rodriguez got their pass in the Grand Master division.
Pachin achieved the second place in heat 4 with a rating of 7 points. “Love Hodel” from Hawaii led the competition(12) and the Chilean Renato Aguirre stood in third place (5.50).
Burgos also reached second place, but in the heat 5, with 5.80 units, little difference from the Mexican Elias Burgueño (5.64) who was third. The Hawaiian Sunny Garcia was first (11.93).
On Monday the action continues in the Championship from 8:00 hours (Ecuador) with the debut of the rest of the categories and the development of the second rounds of the main event of the divisions that already started the competition.
