Ecuavisa apologizes to the Armed Forces for misinformation
Yesterday TV channel (private), Ecuavisa, publicly apologized to the Armed Forces of Ecuador for a erring about the promotions of officers, which was described as an “unfortunate incident“.
During the broadcast of the 13:00, the news presenter Pedro Jimenez said “Ecuavisa confirms and admits that the basic verification procedures by the journalist responsible failed.”
He added “At no time Ecuavisa has sought to create unrest within the military and less to create any sort of contempt.” In the news feature, at 20h00, the presenter Alfonso Espinoza de los Monteros, also reiterated his apologies.
It should be noted that following the “false information,” as was described by the Ecuadorian president, Rafael Correa, during his latest Saturday broadcast, he asked the Defence Minister, Maria Fernanda Espinosa, to sue Ecuavisa by diffusion information allegedly forged from the qualifications of the 78th promotion of colonels to Army generals.
