El Universo Case: Appeal May Be On Monday or Tuesday
Luis Quiroz, president of the Second Chamber of the National Court of Justice, said after a meeting of the court “we have a tentative date (for the hearing of appeals), it would be on Monday or Tuesday.” He said the date would be announced in time for the defense of the newspaper to get ready. He also announced that it would revoke the payment of the fine of five basic salaries to Mauricio Guim, lawyer of Carlos Perez.
“It’s a decision I have asked very politely to the board. There is no need to quarrel with friends, professional colleagues,” he said. Quiroz took this decision considering the youth of the lawyer, “he’s a very young person. This is a process for experienced people, not young.”
Guim said that at first the court fined Monica Vargas. The following ended with a request for investigation against Joffre Campaña. Now he is affected. “We want to reach the audience with the assurance that we are not going to pursue,” he said.
