Electoral Contentious recognizes Moreno’s board
Ecuadornews:
Assemblymen, Andean parliamentarians, councilors and former officials marched yesterday to the CNE to deliver their letter of disaffiliation. Then, at the headquarters of the movement, acts of vandalism were committed. Both the exterior and the interior of the building were completely defaced.
The rupture of Alianza PAIS became official yesterday after the massive disaffiliation of adherents of the movement, including former president Rafael Correa and his circle of collaborators. And that rupture came after the Contentious Electoral Tribunal (TCE) dismissed the appeal filed by former executive secretary Gabriela Rivadeneira on Monday afternoon. She demanded the reins of PAIS in favor of the correísta wing.
The decision of the dispute is unknown as Executive Secretary. With this, the movement was under the direction of Lenin Moreno, who will have to take control of the political headquarters of the organization, such as Quito, located in front of the La Carolina park that was abandoned. At the end of 2017, the secretary in charge of PAIS, Ricardo Zambrano, stated that they had the legal documents to occupy the place.
On Monday night, a group of citizens burst into the headquarters (north of Quito) to write on the exterior walls and even in the interior slogans against Moreno and in favor of the No. They also threw paint at the movement’s brand logo. On the morning of yesterday, the place was also the subject of a symbolic takeover by about 100 retirees from the Ministry of Health, who rejected the corruption and asked the authorities to compensate them. In the took advantage to protest against the former president Correa
As they no longer have their headquarters, one of the first activities on the part of the leadership was the training – in a restaurant – of provincial leaders on electoral control. They will promote in radio, television, press and billboards by the Women’s Forum, a political organization that promotes the No in the plebiscite.
Assembly members disaffiliated
The 28 legislators of PAIS that are part of the correísta wing announced the disaffiliation of AP and plan to create the political movement Civic Revolution. Liliana Durán, president of the Workers’ Rights Commission, is already engaged in this. She ruled that the new group will never vote for a thesis in favor of banking. For his part, Esteban Melo said that “we are not going to play along with a government that violates the Constitution.” In contrast, PAIS legislators, such as Daniel Mendoza, were satisfied with the decision of the Electoral Contentious Court.
He warned that legislators who do not feel comfortable with this decision have the right to create a new political organization, but he hopes that this new movement will not hinder the work in the Assembly. The executive secretary of the movement, Ricardo Zambrano, maintained that the ruling of the Electoral Contentious Court signifies a triumph over the intolerance, sectarianism and lack of transparency that some leaders have had.
He affirmed that not only are they the largest organization in the country, but they will respect and enforce their postulates and the ideological manifesto. He announced that the PAIS national convention will be held in the first half of this year. Jofre Poma, also from PAIS, added that within the movement is analyzed above all the restructuring of PAIS, at the provincial level, but that will be done after the popular consultation. Finally, Elizabeth Cabezas added that for the moment the most important thing is to know well who will be on each side. On the other hand, the headquarters of Alianza PAIS in Guayaquil this morning was completely unoccupied, after the announcement of disaffiliation of the party (AP) that Correa issued yesterday. Inside the premises, according to a guard of the site, there is no furniture or equipment.
The only thing that can be seen from the headquarters at this moment is its closed doors and yesterday in the morning a policeman was observed watching the exteriors. It was known that Correista supporters meet in the premises of Esmeraldas and Gómez Rendón, which is led by Assemblyman Bairon Valle.
New movement
On the outskirts of the national headquarters of the PAIS movement arrived in the afternoon a group of leaders and supporters of the correísta wing. They had with them the plaque that they tried to put a day earlier in the Plaza Grande, but that the Police prevented.
The legislator Augusto Espinosa was the first to arrive and showed the media present his letter of disaffiliation; then he waited for the rest of his companions. Gabriela Rivadeneira, Juan Cristóbal Lloret, Carlos Viteri and others joined the group. Minutes later Rosa Mireya Cárdenas was present, by the Andean Parliamentarians, in addition to Virgilio Hernández, and together they went to the CNE to deliver their letter.
The electoral body, for its part, waited for its session at 5:00 p.m. in which the delivery of the keys, the pigeonhole and the forms for the process of creation of the new movement were planned, a request that was submitted more than three weeks ago, according to Rivadeneira.
