Embassy of Ecuador in Spain seeks support against unemployment and mortgages
About 60,000 Ecuadorians living in Valencia are affected by unemployment and mortgage debts, for that reason Ecuador’s ambassador in Spain, Miguel Calahorrano, Thursday called on regional and municipal authorities in the region for support to mitigate these two problems.
The diplomat said that currently “the 32 percent of Ecuadorians in Spain are unemployed and only 18 percent have temporary jobs,” and other problems are added such as the inability to cope with mortgage payments, the risk of losing their houses and be evicted, and the disintegration of families.
Therefore, Calahorrano requested the support of the Valencian authorities to promote self-employment through SMEs, and to establish bonds of dialogue with banks to reach settlement agreements with the families affected by mortgages.
