Emelec defeated Deportes Iquique of Chile 2-1 in the match within the fourth round of Group 4 of the Libertadores Cup, played Tuesday night in the city of Guayaquil.
What seemed easy for the Guayaquilean team became a complicated scenario when Deportes Iquique without doing much put Emelec into his own net in the dying minutes of the game.
The Ecuadorian club goals were scored by strikers Marlon de Jesus, at minute 57, and Vinicio Angulo, 75. The Chilean scored through Manuel Villalobos in the 79th minute after a mistake from the ecuadorian-argentine goalkeeper Esteban Dreer
With this victory, Emelec completed six points and climbed to third place in the key, which is led by Argentina’s Velez Sarsfield with also six points, but with a better balance of goals than Peñarol of Uruguay (6) and the Ecuadorian club.
