La Union, Esmeraldas

On the coast of Ecuador rainy season still does not stop, several provinces have been affected by the heavy rains, including Esmeraldas, where, between Saturday and Monday, extensive agricultural areas of the Atacames canton were flooded. Water reached nearly a meter of height in La Union parish, since all the estuaries of the parish, flowing into the Atacames river, overflowed.

The storm also caused the overflow of one of the docks that contained a mixture of water and oil, causing a new emergency in Winchele, where the past April 8 a pipe broke of oil pipeline company OCP broke, because of a landslide which resulted in 5,500 barrels of crude spilled oil.

In the northern area of the province floods were also reported,  resulting in a missing person in the canton of San Lorenzo, on the border with Colombia. The Navy was looking for the missing person, although the identity of the victim was unknown by the National Secretariat of risk management (SNGR) of Esmeraldas.

The director of SNGR, Guillermo Prado,  pointed out that there are 410 affected in the North and seven families, who have lost their homes in the communities of Calderón, La Boca, Urbina and Carondelet, and now are in shelters.
