The Minister of education, Augusto Espinosa, said yesterday from his Twitter account that the curriculum for basic general education, which shall remain in force this year, sets mandatory minimum supplementary hours and this does not restrict the teaching of a second language (English).

In the Ministerial agreement 41-014, approved on March 11, includes a mesh in which the teaching of foreign language appears with hourly charges from eighth-Basic. In addition, notes that must be heeded in obligatory manner by private, municipal, public and fiscomicionales

However, Espinosa said yesterday: “the EI (educational institutions) which offer English (or another foreign language) in lower grades that the 8th  can continue to do so”. These institutions must submit their curriculums to the Education District Directorate, according to a statement released yesterday by the institution. That is not specified in the agreement

A transient of the ministerial agreement establishes that only when the specialized texts and staff  are ready, the curriculum would be changed to include to lower grades.
