The period for companies that market food products get an extended period of six moths to set their labels for products of transgenic origin.
Ramiro Gonzalez, Minister of Industry, made the announcement during the signing of an agreement with the Ecuadorian Federation of Metal Industry (Fedimental).
The Superintendency of Market Power Control issued the Tesolution 001, on last September 11, which sets a deadline of 60 days of food and beverage distributors nationwide to affix labels with the legend “component containing transgenic” or “component contains no transgenic.”
Gonzalez’s announcement clarified that this rule applies only to products that are made with genetically modified material. This change was made last week by Richard Espinosa, the Coordinating Minister of Production.
