Families in Manabi are Being Evacuated
Until last night more than 50 families of the communities of Coaque and near the parish of Atahualpa were relocated in a shelter in the geriatric center of Pedernales. This precautionary measure was taken after the landslide caused by the strong rains that affected the community of Piedra Maluca in Pedernales, and even the water dam of the Coaque river.
Ricardo Cabrera, spokesman of the National Secretariat for Risk Managemen in Manabi, Ecuador, pointed out that the number of families evacuated of the risk area, increased this morning. The machines of MTOP, Senagua, Provincial Council and other entities worked near the hill that fell on the community of Tierra Maluca.
Wilson Mendoza, head of Senagua in Manabi, made all the efforts to enable a landfill so that the water of the dam can be drained in a controlled way. According to Mendoza the lack of rain, has allowed them to work for several hours.
