Family of Chavez on the throne of power
From rags to riches
The most influential ones of the “royal” family of Venezuela, or the relatives of Hugo Chavez as they are known, are his parents, his children, his son-in-law, his brothers and his cousin. The Commander had nearly every one of them around him.
His parents
At the funeral of his son, Hugo de los Reyes Chavez, known as “the Teacher” and Elena Frias, were the mirror of the national tragedy. Elena was the inconsolable reflection of a mother stricken with grief.

Elena Frias kept a low profile following her husband after he stopped being the Governor of Barinas in 2008. She was raised in the prairie fields of Barinas, mother of 6 children; she was criticized for her ostentatious life. His humble origin remained only a memory. Clothes, jewelry, aesthetic surgeries, represent the change that Elena experienced in the 14 years of government of his son, the Commander.
Now that the reports on the $ 2,000 million that Chavez had accumulated are publicly known, an account of $ 16 million of Elena Frias was also mentioned.
Not only she accumulated property and wealth. Her whole family is accused of having enriched and owning 45,000 hectares of land in Barinas, their place of origin.
His brothers and cousin
Very close to Hugo stood his brother Adan, the eldest, who replaced his father as governor of Barinas, was ambassador to Cuba during the early years of the revolution and keeps personal bonds with Fidel and Raul Castro.

His mother, Elena, his brothers Narciso and Adan.
Argenis is the favorite son of Miss Elena, he was called to the succession of the Gobernorate and later served as Secretary of State. Today he is President of the Electricity Corporation as a Vice Minister.

“The Chavez family bought mansions, farms, ranches and luxury cars. Now they are confiscating properties in Barinas, ” denounced Wilmer Azuaje, former leader of the PSUV.
The daughters and son-in-law
Maria Gabriela was the successor daughter, turned to First Lady, after her father’s divorce she remained next to him the whole two years of his disease. Hugo Chavez slipped a statement in which he said he wanted a woman to succeed him.

The eldest daughter Rosa Virginia also endured emotional hurricane between trips to Cuba. Always with his father and his sons playing around their grandfather. His role in the future is much more important than it seems. His son-in-law, Jorge Arreaza, 39, was the Commander’s favorite one. As soon as he landed in the presidential family, he was appointed Deputy Minister of Science and Technology in 2010.

The “son” of Chavez, Nicolas Maduro, chose him as his new Executive Vice President and was sworn promising he will culminate the struggle of Simon Bolivar.

Undoubtedly, along with Nicolas Maduro, Chavez’s heirs will keep their influence, their privileges and power. In the socialist regime of the Bolivarian revolution, they will remain as “royal” family of Venezuela. How more years? That is the question that for now has no response.
