Forensic officers have collected samples at the scene.

Dereck, 3 years old; Jovanna, 4; Maria Clara, 10; Dylan, 11, and Melanni, 14, are the victims of a fire caused by the partner of his mother.

The children died asphyxiated, hugging his mother Karen Flores, who was the only survivor, who is fighting for her life in  intensive care unit of the IESS hospital, In the South of Guayaquil.

Inhabitants of the ciudadela la Floresta where  the House was located, reported that the cohabitant of Karen Flores, Gabriel Murillo, arrived at dawn and beat her. Then he retired and returned with a jar of gasoline in their hands. This is the version of some witnesses, so there are serious indications that  Murillo caused the fire that burned and killed 5 innocent children.

Murillo remains detained for being a suspect of this crime which has shocked public opinion and that is a product of the violence suffered by Ecuadorian women

In Ecuador, according to figures from the National Survey of Family Relations and Violence Against Women, conducted by the INEC in 2012, in Ecuador six out of every ten women have experienced some form of gender-based violence.

According to this study, 53% of the surveyed women said to have suffered psychological violence.

Moreover, in Commissioners for women and  families of Guayaquil, in 2010 alone 15,000 complaints were filed for domestic violence, but the figure continued to  increase, in 2011, there were 19 000 complaints filed by women against their husbands and live-in partners.
