Former Commissioner Jacqueline Hurtado Surrendered

The former commissioner of Guayaquil, Jacqueline Hurtado turned herself in last night to the judicial police. Hurtado came accompanied by several former collaborators and by Alex Huacon, a delegate of a human rights organization.
Hurtado gave her version of the events to the judge Victor Moncada. Prior to this diligence Coronel Marcelo Tobar, chief of the judicial police, formalized her arrest. Hurtado explained that she surrendered after the Ecuadorian president Rafael Correa publically offered guarantees that she will face a fair trial.
Jacqueline Hurtado as well as Cesar Hurtado (already in custody), Estela Narvaez, Esther Ansuastegy and Lorena Alarcon are the commissioners at large for being accused of bribery and extortion. (AV)
