Former Iranian Minister, at Germany with a Venezuelan billionaire check
According to the Bild am Sonntag Newspaper, Tahmasb Mazaheri, former Iranian Minister of Finances, was recently found in Germany with a check from the Bank of Venezuela, with a value of 300 million bolivars ($ 70 million, 54 million euros).
Mazaheri, who also directed the central bank of Iran from 2007 to 2008, was inspected by customs agents at the airport of Düsseldorf (west) on last January 21, on his return from Turkey, details the newspaper.
German customs services are investigating whether there is a possible money laundering.
On his behalf, Mazaheri said that the check was to be used to finance the construction of 10,000 homes by the Venezuelan government.
Meanwhile in Venezuela, the opposition leader Henrique Capriles urged the Venezuelan government to explain the incident.
