General Motors Works in a car which works without a driver
The U.S. company plans to release in 2020 a new model of car called “Super Cruise”, which uses radar and cameras to drive the car and keep it within its lane without the need of a driver at the wheel.
The model, besides maintaining the vehicle at a safe distance from other cars to avoid collisions or accidents, has a system that warns the driver when this is getting out of the lane.
However, they continue working to create an intelligent system capable of handling the wheel, said General Motors (GM).
“The control of the wheel is the great additional piece,” said John Capp, director of electronic controls and safety of GM technology.
Capp said there are still problems to be resolved and said it takes a lot of work on the state of the road, the sensor response, the visibility of the separating lines of the lanes and system interaction with the driver, who would retain control of vehicle.
The system would be on sale before the end of the decade, and it would be installed on the Cadillac SRX SUV models.
