The President of the Republic, Guillermo Lasso, during an interview after the activation of the mutual death.
These statements were made in an interview for CNN this Wednesday, May 17, 2023.
“The decision to dissolve the National Assembly is precisely to stop a plan where first they came for me, then for the Prosecutor, then for the Comptroller, Prosecutor and for more State institutions“, Lasso said during the interview.
According to Lasso, when dissolving the Assembly loses effectiveness “this macabre plan to take control of State institutions to produce impunity and make possible the return of a president who has been sentenced for corruption by the National Court of Justice and does not want to comply with the sentence eight years in prison.”
Lasso also stated that democracy was not broken with the mutual death. “What there has been is an act of generosity on my part to reduce my period of government to call elections.”
In the same way, Guillermo Lasso affirms that the decision of the mutual death is framed in the Constitution of Ecuador.
