Hearing against “The 10 of Luluncoto” is resumed

Posted On 31 Jan 2013

The Third Criminal Court of Pichincha resumed this morning the adjudication hearing in the case of the 10 young people who were arrested in March on the Luluncoto sector, south of Quito, over alleged terrorism and sabotage.

The trial itself takes place amid tight security and, at the moment, Abigail Eras is presenting her case, who, like Cristina Campaña are the only ones arrested in this case.

Her other seven companions recovered their freedom last December and Fadua Tapia is defending herself out of prison because she was pregnant during the operative.

The other seven implicated in the Luluncoto case are free.

The prosecution dismissed more than 60 witnesses and only gathered the version of 22 people so their participation in this process ended before the expected term.

To Ciro Guzman, one of the lawyers of the young people, the decision of the Prosecutor’s Office is reflecting that the evidence of the alleged crime are vanishing.

“If the witnesses who testified before, were the strongest of the Prosecution and they could not prove anything at all, imagine if the rest of the witnesses, who had weaker statements, came to the trial. I think the prosecution itself knows its defeat and prefers to leave things the way they are immediately, “he commented.
