Immigrants Will have to Learn New Languages
Italy is another country that has added to the list of west European countries that try to contain the growth of their immigrant population by setting a language requisite to earn residency or work permits, and citizenship. Such requirements were approved last year with the purpose of promoting the integration of immigrants and to maintain the identity of the country.
While some governments defend this action because of the economic crisis that the world and Europe live. It is difficult for immigrants to get a job, and measures such as this one can cause contempt instead of integration. Governments like Austria are more severe, since they reprimand those immigrants that do not talk good German to their sons. Therefore immigrants must study the language for five years, and if they do not speak correctly they could be cast out of the country.
Meanwhile the British government announced that they will reduce their immigration problem by fomenting the correct knowledge of their language. However, many foreigners feel like outsiders, and now with the language requisite they doubt that this will integrate them into the society.
