In the publication against Moreno there is no sustenance
Ecuadornews:
Representatives of the Executive assured that correístas seek to divert attention from announcements made by the National Government to fight corruption in the country. As affirmations without arguments or accurate information, Andrés Michelena, general secretary of Communication of the Presidency, described the publications on a supposed relationship between the family of the President of the Republic, Lenín Moreno, and an offshore company (abroad).
On Wednesday, February 20, at a press conference at the Carondelet Palace, the official said that these texts could not be called an investigation. In addition, María Paula Romo, Minister of the Interior, assured that in that article there is no accusation against the President, there are only hints, he said. “It is linked when it is mentioned that the company would have bought a property in the same country (Spain) in which Moreno’s daughter lives”.
The journalists Fernando Villavicencio and Cristhian Zurita published a report last Tuesday on Ina Investment Corporation. According to that report, the company would be related to the President’s family circle. Ina would have been constituted by Edwin Moreno, brother of the Chief Executive, notes the journalistic article.
Minister Romo said that each person mentioned will have to give their explanation, even if they are not accused of a crime. In addition, none of the commercial activities nor the creation of a company described is related to the President.
The report emphasizes that the Head of State had requested financing for houses; However, this happened when, in his capacity as special envoy to the United Nations for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, he asked for help for the Manabí and Esmeraldas earthquakes, Romo confirmed.
That is how -continued the Minister- Moreno set up a donor table and managed donations at the national and international level to build houses for the victims. That table delivered the contributions to the victims, through the National Federation of Physical Disabilities of Ecuador. “It is a labyrinth that is telling us this note. (…) Dates, names and companies are mixed and it is intended in this labyrinth to entangle the President of the Republic, “argued Romo.
In the opinion of Juan Sebastián Roldán, private secretary of the Presidency, this publication comes after several announcements in the country: the Office of the Prosecutor indicated that members of the Executive and the Attorney General’s Office will travel to Brazil to request the list of related ex-employees in the case of corruption of the Brazilian company Odebrecht. Roldán also said that the President announced on Tuesday the creation of the International Anticorruption Commission to review all corruption issues of the Rafael Correa government and those that may occur in the current regime. “The correístas are afraid that this Government will go ahead and bring this country forward. That’s why they brought a complaint, “said Roldán.
Michelena assured that accusations have been made without arguments against the President. While Romo considers it a distraction mechanism. “They want to erase what we have achieved in two years, they want to erase the democracy we live in, they want to erase the freedom we have and they want to go against everything we have achieved in the fight against corruption,” said Michelena.
The President referred to this issue at an event in the Chapel of Man. “It is an attack against my honor and that of my family with data and scribbles that have nothing to do with me,” he said. The President said that the closer “we are to the truth, the more nervous we will find them. There we will face them. ” (I)
