International Oversight Sought Clarification on New Judges
Civil Judges failed to clarify the controversy surrounding the ratings given to reach the National Court of Justice. In this case several demands were made between January 26 and April 24. The civil demands made against the selected judges Wilson Merino, Ximena Vintimilla and Mariana Yumbay were made so they give their judicial confession about the mechanism used for designation.
However, these investigations did not move forward. Regarding the case of Yumbay, the Assemblyman Andres Paez requested the X of the Civil Court of Pichincha to recognize the documents that certify their years of professional experience.
Recently the international oversight, represented by Baltasar Garzon, confirmed that Yumbay was given six “undeserving” points for the 10 years and six months of career. The international supervision recommended that the National Court explain the legitimacy of the process that was in charge of the Judiciary and to ensure a demand in the justice system.
