Drafting Security READ ALSO The judge of the Criminal Judicial Unit of Latacunga, Marcelo Palomo, will lift the warrant for former Foreign Minister Ricardo Patiño if he cancels a bond of USD 50 000.
That value was determined in a bail hearing held in the afternoon of this May 9, 2019, in Latacunga. Fernando Yávar, Patiño’s lawyer, was the one who requested this appeal.
According to the lawyer, the judge ordered that this value be canceled immediately, but if he does not do so, he will remain in custody for Patiño, currently a fugitive.
After the resolution, Yávar said the value was “disproportionate”. “As long as I do not converse with my client, I can not confirm that we would be willing to accept the value that has been set by the Judiciary,” he said.
Patiño is accused of an alleged offense of instigation, after having delivered a speech in Latacunga, in which he called for an armed struggle and “take over” public institutions.
“Juan Carlos Machuca, who denounced the case, said that now Patiño will be able to return to the country. “He said he does not trust justice, let’s hope that with this measure he will come forward to face justice.” (I)
