Lenin Moreno entrusts the Vice Presidency and the referendum to Maria Alejandra Vicuña
Ecuadornews:
President Lenin Moreno commissioned the Vice Presidency to Minister of Urban Development and Housing Maria Alejandra Vicuña due to the “temporary absence” of Jorge Glas, through Executive order No. 176.
The president supports this decision on Section 150 of the Constitution, which empowers him to appoint a minister in case of temporary absence and on Section 146, that considers an event of “force majeure” as one of the causes that prevent him from exercising his functions within a maximum period of three months.
Vicuña was an Alianza PAIS Legislator, and in 2015, she voted in favor of constitutional amendments, including the indefinite re-election. In August of that year, she disclosed an audio of Martha Roldos in her social networks. Roldos described the fact a “violation of privacy.”
In the afternoon, Vicuna thanked the president’s confidence for this charge and the coordination of the referendum. (I)
