Lenin Moreno: “the best way to fight terrorists is by not to being afraid”
Ecuadornews:
The president of Ecuador, Lenin Moreno, said today that the best way to beat terrorism is ” by not to being afraid” and pointed out that the necessary measures have been taken to protect the population affected yesterday by the outbreak of a car bomb, which caused injuries mild to 28 people in the north of the country.
In a public act of delivery of some houses to people of limited resources in the south of Quito, Moreno recalled that early yesterday, “for the first time in the history of the country a car bomb destroyed buildings in San Lorenzo”, in the province coast of Esmeraldas, border with Colombia.
“We have taken the urgent and necessary measures to provide security to the population of San Lorenzo and Eloy Alfaro, and take care of our border and provide a comprehensive solution to those affected, with harmonious work by all the ministries involved,” said the head of state.
He added: “Be certain, those who hide their evil in the perversity that the darkness of the night can generate, that we are not going to frighten them, they will not intimidate us”.
“For that we have our National Police and our Armed Forces. Now we are in total control of the situation, the best way to fight and win the terrorists is by not to being afraid, “said Lenin Moreno.
He pointed out that as in the communities, the best way to beat the rapists, the thieves, the aggressors, the criminals “is not to be frightened”
He indicated that full solidarity in the community is what makes it possible to defeat “this group of scoundrels that harms society.”
Senior government officials, led by Interior Minister César Navas and State Attorney General Carlos Baca, traveled to the province of Esmeraldas, in northwest Ecuador, to advance the analysis of the situation, especially in the cantons of San Lorenzo and Eloy Alfaro.
Moreno decreed yesterday the state of emergency in those two localities with what was suspended, for sixty days, the rights to the inviolability of domicile and correspondence, as well as freedom of transit and association and assembly.
According to the head of state, the attack, which destroyed 95 percent of the police building, and damaged 37 adjacent homes, was a “terrorist act linked to drug gangs that have been beaten by the security forces of the Ecuadorian State.”
The State Prosecutor General said yesterday that the “act of terrorism” on Saturday “will have a firm, determined and without any fear on the part of all State functions.”
“We will respond in a frontal, clear and without any fear to these activities of organized crime, which occur mainly as reprisals to the actions that the State has carried out in recent years in the control of the border and activities illicit as drug trafficking, “he said.
He said that “these activities of organized crime, these terrorist activities will not achieve the purpose of frightening a State that before the welfare of the country is solidly united to face this type of attack”. (I)
