According to the new Minister of Government, Henry Cucalón, the transfer of police officers assigned to the Prosecutor’s Office is a routine task that has been done in the past.

The new Minister of Government, Henry Cucalón, in a television interview, on February 13, 2023.
In one of his first appearances since he took office, the Minister of Government, Henry Cucalón, denied that the transfer of police officers assigned to the Prosecutor’s Office is an interference in Justice.
“I call for calm. Replace is not the same as remove, it is a common process. There is no obstruction or interference,” Cucalón said in an interview on Telemazonas on February 13.
The transfer of police officers includes 37 agents, including criminal case investigators and the security team of prosecutor Diana Salazar.
Cucalón assured that the measure corresponds to a habitual rotation, made by the Department of Human Talent of the National Police, and not by the Government.
The new Minister pointed out that in 2022 at least 6,000 procedures of this type were carried out among State institutions, and some 330 transfers were in the Police.
“Caso Encuentro”
For this Monday, an occasional Commission in the Assembly called several public officials, such as President Guillermo Lasso, to appear.
This commission investigates complaints about an alleged network of corruption in public companies, in a process that the Prosecutor’s Office has called Caso Encuentro.
Asked about Lasso’s presence in the Assembly, Cucalón said that the President will not go for a simple reason.
“The Constitution says that the President must go only in designated cases, such as the Report to the Nation,” said the Minister, in the interview with Teleamazonas.
Cucalón added that the President appears through his Secretaries of State.
Call to dialogue
Another of the issues addressed by Cucalón in his public appearances this Monday was the call for dialogue, made by the Government after the sectional elections.
According to the Minister, he has already approached social organizations and with which he said he will meet this week.
He also recognized that there will be divergences and contrasts of ideas with the Assembly and opposition political actors.
“But you have to find a common cause and one of them is citizen security,” said Cucalón.
