Mobile telephone industry grow and earns $560 million

In Ecuador, the private cellular operators continue to improve according to its figures during the first quarter of the current year.

The Mexican group America Movil, with its subsidiary Claro, registered within its cell-phone business in Ecuador a growth of 7.4%, since this year it generated $400 million between January and March, while the previous year during the same period only registered $372 million in profits.

The main source of income of Claro are mobile services, since this category generated the company $343 million until last March. Despite the fact that the sale of equipment did not represent a mayor  gain than the end of the quarter, with profits of $57 million.

For its part, the Spanish telephone company, which operates under the brand Movistar, registered in Ecuador  a profit of 123 million euros (more than $160 million at current Exchange) during the same period, representing a growth of 5.7%.

Movistar said that its revenue from mobile services reached 111 million euros (more than $146 million). Only data revenues, regarding the services, rose 14% for a 36 million euros profit ($ 47 million). While the sale of terminals, 11 million euros (about $15 million).
