On December 19 Correa filed an application for a license that would allow him to leave office between January 15 and February 14, since the law provides for the possibility of such permission only for one month.
Democracy Code allows a candidate for reelection to make use of license, but without pay.
“According to the petition, the president would get the license from January 15 to February 14, 2013 and in this period, Vice President Lenin Moreno would be responsible for the Presidency,” indicated the Assembly in a statement.
