National Brewery Dispute Entered Its Final Stage
Richard Espinosa, Minister for Industrial Relations, announced yesterday that his minister is ready to execute the decision of the Twelfth Civil Judge of Guayas, Pedro Iriarte, who ordered the payment of USD 90.9 million for arrear utilities by the National Beer (CN in Spanish) to over 1200 former employees of that company.
According to the latest ruling by Iriarte on May 3th, CN had a deadline of 48 hours to deposit the amount ordered by the judges, if not for a penalty equal to the amount ordered. That is why they must cancel now more than $ 180 million with a deadline of 30 days.
This decision upset at the brewery managers, who in a company statement said that the judge violated the process again. “The aim is to trample the rights of the Brewery (…),” adding that Iriarte denied the requests for reconsideration and reform made by the company in April. “(…) It will be demanded within the law term the invalidity of the ruling so that the judge must rule on the revoke appeal sought.”
