Nebot: “Potable water services will no longer be concessioned in Guayaquil, if Interagua leaves”
Mayor of Guayaquil, through a radio broadcast, said that in case the concession contract with Interagua comes to an end, the Municipality would analyze the possibility of managing the water service directly or through an operator.
Nebot stated that the period of 60 days granted to Interagua by the Municipality to implement corrections, has entered into force.
“Interagua has, since they were notified, 60 days within The current contract, if they comply, well, in good time, if not, the contract will have to continue its process of termination and we are definitely ready, as we have been in every activity that the municipality has assumed, to manage the service directly or through an operator, not using a concession but an operator, “said the mayor.
It’s been nearly a month since the Municipality of Guayaquil announced the process of termination of the concession contract with Interagua, after the company threatened to stop making new investments if service fees were not increased.
In response, Nebot said “The issue is simple: a concession contract is basically an investment contract, without investment there is no work, that’s the contract, if someone says ‘I do not invest’, that person violates the contract, that’s what Interagua expressed in the letter, but has retractes in words, but in practice there is no such thing because the right investment is missing, that spirit is missing, the issue is not clear enough, they must reconsider with actions and not with words. “
