New insurance for the banana exporter
Ecuadortimes:

The Logistics Community of the Port of Guayaquil (CLPG), with the advice of RSA Seguros as a broker, managed the Comprehensive Export Insurance (SIE) for the banana sector, in which the insurance companies Chubb and Zurich participate. The launch was last Thursday,
The CLPG estimates that 230,000 containers with bananas leave the international markets annually. Rafael Fonseca, director of the Community, explained that exporters will no longer look abroad for this insurance, which even covers the loss of containers.
In winter there are container turns that can cost $ 100 each, he explained. The insurance charges per container $ 16 to cover the national route and $ 12 the international.
For his part, Guillermo Roseney, president of RSA Seguros, indicated that there are traditional policies that only cover limited phases. The SIE covers damage to containers, merchandise and damages to third parties.
Richard Salazar, administrator of the Banana Marketing and Export Association, described the initiative as positive. Meanwhile, Fonseca aims to ensure, in the third year, 100,000 containers of the 230,000 per year. “(With that) we can think about having lower rates,” he said, and said that similar insurance is being prepared for the shrimp sector.
