Obama Supports Same-Sex Marriage: Biden’s Comments Pushed Out the Announcement

Posted On 10 May 2012

President Barack Obama‘s announcement, that he now supports same-sex marriage, came sooner than planned as a result of comments made by Vice President Joe Biden, he said in an interview broadcast Thursday.

Biden told NBC‘s “Meet the Press” over the weekend that he is “absolutely comfortable” with same-sex marriage.

Obama was planning to announce his support next week on the ABC program “The View,” a top Democrat told CNN Thursday.

News of Obama’s history-making decision on same-sex marriage broke Wednesday when the interview was taped.

Obama added that he would have “preferred to have done this in my own way, on my own terms,” but “all’s well that ends well.”

“At a certain point I’ve just concluded that for me, personally, it is important for me to go ahead and affirm that I think same-sex couples should be able to get married,” Obama said. (ARL)
