Overloading would be a cause of the Ferry sinking
Researchers who conducted investigations into the sinking of the South Korean ferry, focus their hypothesis in the excess charge as the main cause of the shipwreck, reported on Thursday the Yonhap news agency.
Experts estimate that the responsibility may fall on two members of the Sewol shipping company which sank with 476 passengers on board last April 16th, and are evaluating the detention request for both, the agency said.
They also investigate if the reforms made in this ferry of about 20 years old that transported vehicles and people, established specific parameters regarding the weight limit.
According to the agency, South Korean prosecutors estimate that the day of the accident the ferry´s load exceeded 3 or 4 times the recommended maximum tonnage. If the load was displaced to one side, it could cause the collapse of the Ferry in seconds.
