País Former Assemblyman in Jail for Land Trafficking
Yesterday, former Assemblyman from Alianza País, Balerio Estacio, was arrested at the premises of RTS . With a capture ballot the police arrested Estacio for alleged connections with land traffic.
The Police assured that is not the unique capture ballot for this crime, but they refused to give other names.
The police action came two days after President Rafael Correa insisted that he will not allow more invasions in the north of Guayaquil. He also encouraged residents from Voluntad de Dios, Tierra Prometida, and La Fortaleza to stop paying to land traffickers for the ground because it is illegal.
The invasions that Estacio led were: Montesinaí, Flor de Bastion, Sergio Toral, Ciudad de Dios, among others. Residents pay $1 weekly for guardianship. In addition $60 to have electricity, and $200 per month for the land. The final value of the property ranges are $ 2,000 and $5,000. “If dealers want to abuse you, warn the soldiers,” said Correa, who announced that this sector would be a buffer zone.
The Former Assemblyman claims to have documents that support that lands are his properties.
