Posted On 31 Mar 2014
Executives of the Avanza and Socialista Frente Amplio (PSFA) parties, which led the intention of vote by the Municipality of Pedernales, remained attentive to the election day, which unfolded smoothly but with a steady rain. The National Electoral Council (CNE) yesterday called 40.497 inhabitants to the polls to choose their Prefect and Vice-Prefect, Mayor, urban and rural Councillors, and members of parochial boards.
The PSFA candidate, Gabriel Alcívar, was gaining the elections on February 23, but the Electoral contentious Tribunal (TCE) accepted the remedy of nullity raised by the candidate of Avanza, Oscar Arcentales, because of the delay on the arrival of electoral material.
Alcivar reiterated yesterday that the measure was wrong, but said he was confident he would prevail. He went to the poll stations around 09:58 in the company of the National Vice President of the party, Byron Corral, and dozens of well-wishers. Meanwhile, Arcentales voted at 11:30 in the company of the National Director of Avanza, Ramiro González, the Assemblyman Gozoso Andrade and other leaders.
