President Correa described his cousin Pedro Delgado as a traitor
The Ecuadorian President, Rafael Correa once again criticizes and defends an accused of corruption, in this case is his cousin and former president of the Central Bank of Ecuador, Pedro Delgado Campana. In the case of his cousin, Correa reactions against the allegations carried out to his colleagues share a similar pattern: he immediately disqualifies the research and those who initiate it, promote or spread. Regarding Delgado, Correa defended him despite the contradictions made by Delgado himself.
During his Saturday broadcast on November 24, Correa apart from breaking a copy of El Universo newspaper, because of the accusations made against his cousin Pedro Delgado, said, “It now appears that he does not have an economist title which is needed to be president of the Central Bank. Everything is a lie.”
As Correa did with his cousin, the executive has defended other collaborators who have been or are currently under investigation. As with Francisco Arellano and the tithes of the Superintendency of Companies. In these irregularities also excel the contracts for sports games made by Raul Carrion, who currently faces more than ten trials for embezzlement. Moreover Ricardo Anton faces a detention order imposed by the Legal Secretariat of the Presidency for an investigation carried out into vests and GPS systems along with Camilo Saman for the inconsistencies regarding his declaration of assets.
The criticism of the president has been against other State institutions. The past July 21, Correa questioned a report of the Comptroller that determined that the GPS equipment that the company gave to Raptor and the National Agency Traffic (ANT) did not meet the technical specifications of the competition and therefore it was casual to reject such offer. The report also initiated a statement against the former director of the ANT, Ricardo Anton, along with three officials for alleged embezzlement of the entity for acquiring GPS 69.960. However, Correa said reviewed the case and later said there were no irregularities in the purchase. The president stated of a possible investigation by the Oversight Committee of the Assembly against the auditors of the Comptroller.
On March 30, 2009, Correa said that so far the only corruption discovered by the Government was the case of the Ministry of Sport, where his friend Raul Carrion is involved. Carrion resigned on December 2, 2008, during an investigation into alleged irregularities by contracts of sporting scenes for the National Games of that year. Regarding this case Correa denied a publication of El Universo newspaper saying that some of the scenarios were not ready despite the allocation of $ 8 million for the work.
Regarding the accusations carried out against Camilo Saman, the executive showed their support last June 11 via his Twitter account in which he said: “All our sympathy to Camilo Saman, who is under a new attack by the usual vultures.” Correa’s statements were made due to an investigation carried out by newspaper El Universo when Saman took the office of Governorate of Guayas, on January 16, 2007, due to a trial of a coercive judgment with Filanbanco SA liquidation and other debts to the Central Bank, which does not allows him to access public office. Although the board of the CFN approved a $ 10 million to the company Megamaq Fabricio Correa, the president is defending Saman.
