Presidential Attorneys Want to Speed up the Trial Resolution
The date for the resolution on El Universo case has not been set by the Second Crime Chamber of Guayas. The Ecuadorian president Rafael Correa and his defense attorneys expect that the three deputy judges of the Chamber give an answer to the appealing process on the next Thursday 22.
On that day, judge Guillermo Freire set the next hearing for the appealing. Yesterday Correa and his attorney Alembert Vera expressed their contempt with the day of the announcement of the sentence. However the day set by Judge Freire was made verbally and there is no written notification. The president and his attorneys have two reasons to justify their restlessness.
The first reason is that the hearing for appealing had to be made in a single session and Correa will not be in the country on September 22 because he has a meeting in New York with the General Assembly of the United Nations. Finally Correa added that he wants to be present in the reading of the sentence given by the Magistrates. (AV)
