Leon Febres-Cordero bust

Pro-monument committee of former president Leon Febres-Cordero (LFC) chaired by Archbishop Antonio Arregui, is trying to remove the LFC bust that is retained in the cellars of the National Customs Service (Senae) since 2012.

During an interview with Ecuavisa, the cleric said that family members and committee members asked him to inquire the Customs to know the necessary procedures to retrieve the bust.

“We’ll see how can we proceed to give it a space in the city so as to perpetuate the gratitude of the city,” said Arregui.

These actions came after last Wednesday the Archbishop Arregui and the mayor of Guayaquil, Jaime Nebot, signed a document that leaves without effect the rights of the monument to their respective owners.

The committee has until September 12 for the paperwork to clear the bust from customs. Although on 15 August, the mayor informed Senae that the bust was declared as abandoned.
