Posted On 15 Jun 2018

Ecuadornews:

The Attorney General of the State (e), Paúl Pérez Reina, undertook to speed up the investigative process of the six complaints of sexual abuse filed against the Cuenca priest César C. For this purpose he foresees a dialogue with the Prosecutor on Friday, June 15. Provincial del Azuay, in order to be informed of the progress of the inquiries.

This was the commitment assumed by Pérez Reina, in a meeting held on Thursday 14 in Quito for around 30 minutes with the complainants and their relatives. “He told us that he did not know the details of the allegations, that he has heard very little about what we have reported and offered to intervene,” said Jorge Palacios, 63, who is one of the victims of rape when was child.

He says that about the sexual abuse on behalf of the priest for years he did not comment to anyone, but now his decision is to talk about his case and fight so that he does not remain in impunity.

He also explained that they hope that this crime does not prescribe for the time that has passed. “We will back on question 4 of the referendum, which talks about the non-prescription of sexual crimes against children and adolescents,” he said.

At this moment there are five denunciations in Cuenca for this issue, says Tatiana Palacios, Jorge’s daughter. She accompanied her father to the General Prosecutor’s Office in Quito and explained that there was a commitment from the authorities to review and expedite the treatment of the issue.

He relates that in Cuenca he has been called to take a version, but the priest has not yet come close to complying with this provision of the authorities. Jorge Mosquera, another of the complainants, said that the priest César C. also acted with sadism and physically mistreated the school children who were his students.

Relatives and friends who could not enter the meeting, stayed for about an hour outside the Prosecutor General’s Office, with signs in hand, demanding that this case not remain unpunished. (I)
