Quito Book Fair will deal with science

In the literary encounter there will be more than 200 activities. 80 national and foreign writers will participate in this edition. Mexican and Peruvian literature will have greater representation. Esmeraldas is the guest province of honor.

Duringthe first day of the International Book Fair of Quito, which inauguration willtake place today, at 7:00 p.m., at the recently inaugurated MetropolitanConvention Center, Esmeralda’s culture and literature will occupy the agenda ofthe entire day.

An exhibition guided by the literary work of Atacameño writer and poet Nelson Estupiñán Bass, by Carlos Alfredo Casierra Márquez; marimba demonstration; or the presence of Papa Roncón are some of the activities that make up the program for this day and will run until November 18 at the Metropolitan Convention Center.

TheFair is part of the National Book Plan José de la Cuadra and began yesterdayunofficially with the presentation of the writer Haruki Murakami at theNational Theater of the House of Culture.

Vicente Ordóñez, president of the Ecuadorian Chamber of Books, says that for the first time at the Book Fair there will be a business round for publishers. Two of the great axes that crosses this encounter are Mexican science and literature.

Julieta Fierro (Mexican astronomer), José Gordón (scientific journalist) and Rodolfo Llinás (Colombian scientist) are part of the special guests.

The neurophysiologist Rodolfo Llinás, who has dedicated his career to the study of the brain, has among his most recent works an investigation of autophagy among neurons, a process that is related to old age and whose in-depth knowledge can help to optimize life and Treat diseases such as Alzheimer’s.

“The autophagy is a complex intercellular system that cleans the cells and if it does not work well then (…) we start to get old, that’s the key to not getting old,” he says in an interview with EFE in Bogotá.

More than 200 activities and 80 national and international writers are part of this free meeting, which will have a Children’s Pavilion of 300 m2.

TheNight of the Book will be held on Thursday 15 with special prices for books.The English novelist, essayist and journalist Geolf Dayer is another authorsummoned. (I)
