Quito grows at an accelerated pace
Ecuadornews:
The500 years are approaching. Yesterday, the capital commemorated its 484 years of Spanish foundation among traditions, festivals and customs. As usual, Quito regains its shine and puts on its best face for the December celebrations.
Of course, it was not all dancing and serenades. The National Institute of Statistics and Census (INEC) provided interesting details of the Carita de Dios. According to its latest statistical compilation, Quito also celebrates for its high telephone connection. About 50% of all its inhabitants -between children and adults- have a cell phone. Moreover, of the 1.2 million active mobile phone lines, more than 900,000 correspond to smartphones.
Quito also leads the new forms of transportation. Although the number is still low, more than 4,766 people use bicycles to get around daily. The majority, however, continues to use public transportation.
Therefore, municipal management has focused on the construction of the Quito Metro. The work, which will be released next year, is the most important project of the administration of Mayor Mauricio Rodas.
Another statistic that draws attention is the importance of trade, wholesale and retail, in the city’s economy. 7% of all capital companies (about 182,195) are engaged in this activity.
The administration of real estate, however, is the business activity with less reception. 1.7% of the total.
Mayor Rodas, who celebrates his last foundation as local authority, ended the celebrations with a solemn session, yesterday. The President of the Republic,Lenin Moreno, and other national authorities were present at the event.
The first president arrived with promises of works: the metroférico that will mobilize 11,000 daily passengers, from the south to the north. The capital will come from private hands.
The second offer was the creation of a large investment and entrepreneur ship center. (I)
