Quito sells products made from consumable roses

Posted On 02 May 2013

Currently, thanks to the implementation of  alliances between Nevado Roses, a company that is in charge of producing flowers, and businesses that produce new products, Ecuadorians can taste cheese, chocolate, energy bars, tea, jam and vinegar made with consumable roses grown in Ecuador, and its petals have been certified by the American and European agricultural departments.

Confiteca is in charge of producing chocolate, Batery produces energy bars and Mondel, cheeses, among others.

“They make the product, we deliver the raw material,” said Roberto Nevado, President of the company that produces organic flowers since 2008, he explains that the  rose is organic due to the given treatment which is completely made with organic products.

“We have pesticides and organic fungicides, for example, a base of onion, garlic, mint and nettle;  eating an organic rose is the same than eating a lettuce, an orange for vitamin C, calcium, iron, potassium and a myriad of benefits”, indicates Patricio Altamirano, who is in charge of selling the product in the store called I Love Roses, located in the new airport of Tababela, in Quito since April 15, in the international terminal.

Prices of products vary, $10 for a chocolate made with consumable roses, $7 for the cheese, $6 for the vinegar and $1 for the the energy bar.
