Reactions for the impunity in the case of the “diplomatic suitcase”
Foreign Minister Ricardo Patiño and the Attorney General’s Office, Galo Chiriboga, announced yesterday during a press conference in the case ‘Narcovalija’ that those responsible have not been found in Ecuador. Although the drug was placed in the Chancellery in a suitcase and that three people were sentenced in Italy, the country where the drug arrived.
Different voices censured the announcement of the prosecutor Galo Chiriboga in the sense that if the ‘Narcovalija’ can be archived collects states the Expreso newspaper, as there is coincidence for the need of continued investigations, conclusions and punish the perpetrators of the crime in Ecuador, they also put in a bad predicament the name of the country abroad due to the “carelessness” of the Foreign Ministry, to allow the introduction of drug in a suitcase that would later be discovered in Italy.
The former president of the Supreme Court, Carlos Solorzano, wondered what happens to Galo (Chiriboga)?, Adding with irony that while the Foreign Minister Patiño maintains that “the drug was introduced while in the air, Chiriboga says dogs were deceived … Don’t come with these lies, by God! The people of Ecuador are not dumb as Chiriboga and many people in the government think.”
Meanwhile the assemblyman Fernando Aguirre (SP) warns about the possibility of calling a political trial to the Prosecutor if the case is filed, and Dalo Bucaram of PRE also announced that he would politically trial the prosecutor for this case that has ended in the impunity. While Aguirre demands to thoroughly investigate the case in order to find the authors, accomplices and those that covered up the people behind of sending the liquid cocaine in jars. “We are not working correctly, but slowly, when it suits for them in a biased manner.”
For the former president of the Superior Court of Guayas, Miguel Felix Lopez, shows the evident neglecting in tracking the case in Ecuador, thereby claiming both that the prosecution as well as the police obligation “to clarify all doubts… it’s weird that those who sent (the suitcase) have not been identified from the foreign ministry,” he said, while former State Prosecutor Fernando Casares, notes that one thing is that Italian justice has done its part and here in Ecuador, “we cross our arms and say well thanks … The commission of these kind of offenses will open the door to international drug trafficking, because they know that in Ecuador nothing will happen,” he said.
The newspaper also realizes the police position in this case. Reported the statements of the National Director of the Anti-Narcotics Police, General Juan Carlos Barragan, who dismisses the police responsibility by saying that “the inspections are made by humans and trained by an animal, (and) there is no canine system in the world that can fail to the leakage of drugs.”
