Review in supermarkets clarifies that there are no price increases
A video released on March 11 by the Interior Minister José Serrano in his Twitter account where employees of a supermarket could be seen withdrawing products from a shelf switched on the alarm of the government and caused that Police inspectors make operations to avoid an alleged speculation, after the adoption of tariff surcharges.
About the video, Serrano published: “Look what they are doing, speculators!, removing the products from the hangers, we caught them red-handed.”
After the Police operations, the Minister, through a statement, said there was no news during the operations and that prices remain the same. “We sent a message of reassurance to the public, the selling of products in the country is occurring normally and there is no news,” said Serrano.
The sixth commissioner of Police, Santiago Franco, visited two supermarkets in Los Ceibos zone to verify complaints of alleged speculation.
According to the Intendancy, just like Franco, the eight commissioners of Guayaquil and two of Duran performed simultaneous controls, in which no irregularities were found.
“It is usual, there are products on hangers and everything is normal with the prices (…),” said Franco, adding that the operations were disposednationwide.
