Robotics contest takes 6 young Ecuadorians to Thailand

Gloria Bermello gave the blessing to her son, Erick Villavicencio, 16, on Monday afternoon at the Jose Joaquin de Olmedo airport.
Excited and holding an Ecuadorian flag, the young man was preparing to travel to Thailand with his friends, Ronald Ureta, Víctor Bermello, Édison Sancán, Jonathan Figueroa and Dylan Suárez.
Theywill represent Ecuador in the World Robot Olympiad, which will be held fromFriday 16 to Sunday 18 in the city Chiang Mai.
“I have asked permission at work to come and say goodbye, I am very proud of him, all the sacrifice I have made for him has been worth it,” said Villavicencio’s mother.
The six young people are part of the social project Aula del Conocimiento, from the Hogar de Cristo foundation, located in the Mount Sinai sector, northwest.
Édison Sancán, one of the contestants, indicated that they travel with the illusion of bringing victory. For this, they have prepared about six months.
They are distributed in the senior and junior categories, and they brought two robots. With each one, they must submit projects in precision agriculture and food distribution.
Estefanía Lozano, Espol professor, gave an economic donation to the students, which was collected among professors of that university institution.
He alsoextended the invitation to them to present their experience at the Hackaton2019 event, which will take place in January at the Espol. (I)
